Democratic House candidate Jack Schlossberg called on the Federal Trade Commission to investigate Hertz’s use of AI-powered vehicle inspections, citing concerns that the technology could trigger excessive damage fees and limit consumers’ ability to dispute charges. Schlossberg proposed setting federal guidelines for AI in consumer-facing financial decisions and ensuring transparent dispute processes, positioning the issue as part of a broader trend of algorithmic pricing and billing. Hertz defended the program, developed with Israel-based UVeye, saying digital inspections improve consistency and provide before-and-after evidence while enhancing support channels. The FTC declined to comment; Schlossberg is competing in a crowded Democratic primary for New York’s 12th Congressional District.
