Apple agreed to pay $250 million to resolve a consolidated class-action lawsuit alleging it misled consumers about new artificial-intelligence features on recent iPhones. The settlement, filed in federal court in California, would provide payments of $25 to $95 to U.S. customers who bought iPhone 15 or 16 models between June 2024 and March 2025, pending court approval. Apple denied wrongdoing, saying the dispute involves the availability of two features within its broader Apple Intelligence rollout.
Plaintiffs claimed Apple engaged in false advertising by touting AI capabilities—including an enhanced Siri—that were not available at launch and remain delayed. The deal closes a legal front as Apple races to showcase AI upgrades across its devices amid intensifying competition from OpenAI and others. The payout is unlikely to be financially material for Apple but underscores the risks of aggressive marketing around emerging technologies.
