A new executive order establishes a voluntary pathway for AI developers to grant the federal government access to advanced “frontier” models up to 30 days before public release, aiming to flag cybersecurity and national-security risks earlier. The policy also stands up an AI cybersecurity clearinghouse to assess such systems and directs agencies to expand AI capabilities for critical infrastructure operators, potentially backed by federal grants. Industry attorneys say the collaboration could speed innovation while keeping regulators informed, but warn that confidentiality, IP protection, insider risk and cybersecurity terms must be nailed down in implementation guidance. Stakeholders—from agencies to small utilities and rural hospitals—are looking for clear criteria on how models will be evaluated and how sensitive information will be safeguarded. The short review window represents a trade-off: closer-to-release visibility for the government and a more practical burden for companies.
