He expects broader productivity gains from AI to take 18 to 24 months to show up in official statistics. Chatterji sees growing demand in the “care economy” and other person-to-person services that are harder to automate, while knowledge workers increasingly use AI to perform tasks once handed to colleagues. The near-term story, he suggests, is less about unemployment spikes and more about quiet reconfiguration of workflows and skills inside U.S. companies.
