SpaceX chief executive Elon Musk said he restricted usage of the company’s Grok Bot after costs outpaced revenue, prompting some users to find their weekly quotas unexpectedly maxed out over the weekend. Musk acknowledged the change on X, calling Grok’s serving costs “unsustainably high,” but didn’t specify how limits will be adjusted going forward. SpaceX has positioned Grok as a growth engine, saying AI accounted for 52% of company income in a recent filing. Its “Super Intelligence” division reported $431 million in profit, which the company said would have been higher absent $1.2 billion in one-time charges tied to its Cursor acquisition. Musk has touted Grok’s rapid adoption, but the pullback underscores mounting compute and infrastructure expenses across the AI sector as companies balance demand with profitability.
