Sam’s Club, the membership warehouse chain owned by Walmart, is set to eliminate traditional checkouts at its 600 U.S. stores, shifting toward a technology-powered, frictionless shopping experience. The company will expand its Scan & Go system, which lets members scan products with an app, by adding a new AI scanner called “Just Go.” This AI solution will verify goods as shoppers exit, removing the need for receipt checks and speeding up the process. The latest store in Grapevine, Texas already uses this technology, and the company claims the changes will improve both efficiency and employee experience. While rivals like Costco stick with conventional checkouts, Sam’s Club’s move is part of a larger Walmart experiment with AI in retail.
