Google has released three experimental AI tools to help users learn new languages in a more personalized and dynamic way. Utilizing Google’s Gemini large language model, the tools offer tailored micro-lessons for specific situations, teach local slang and colloquial expressions, and use a camera to identify and label real-world objects in the learner’s target language. Though still experimental—sometimes generating inaccurate slang or made-up words—the features aim to supplement independent language learning and rival popular platforms like Duolingo. The tools support multiple languages and are accessible through Google Labs.
