The State Bar of California has announced that artificial intelligence was used to help develop some multiple-choice questions in the February 2025 bar exam, which was marred by technical issues that prevented many candidates from completing the test. In response, the Bar will ask the California Supreme Court to adjust the scores. The revelation has sparked concern and debate among legal educators, with some criticizing the use of AI-developed questions by non-lawyers and questioning the oversight process. Despite skepticism from parts of the legal community, experts note that the use of AI in legal assessments is likely to increase, provided proper safeguards are in place.
