In a memo made public on June 17, 2025, Amazon CEO Andy Jassy revealed that the company plans to reduce its corporate workforce in the coming years as it adopts more generative AI tools and agents. Jassy described an “agentic future” where AI automates many office tasks, leading to increased efficiency and fewer employees needed for some jobs, though possibly creating new roles elsewhere. He emphasized Amazon’s substantial investment in artificial intelligence, which is already reshaping the company’s offerings and internal processes. Some employees, however, have pushed back, noting AI-driven demands for higher productivity and more routine work. This shift follows recent layoffs in Amazon’s devices and services division and signals the company’s broader strategy to transform operations through AI innovation.
