As Generation Z enters adulthood, artificial intelligence stands at the heart of their future possibilities—and risks. In a roundtable of perspectives from young Brits in fields ranging from journalism to architecture, contributors describe both the promise and the peril of AI’s rapid evolution. While some highlight AI’s ability to assist in writing and design, others express deep concerns about misinformation, environmental costs, and the erosion of authentic communication. Misinformation—spread easily via AI-generated content—raises particular worries, especially among less media-savvy users. Meanwhile, the technology’s energy demands put environmental sustainability into question, and AI’s growing role in personal relationships and education challenges the norms of genuine interaction and reliable knowledge. Despite these anxieties, contributors see opportunities for humans to harness AI as a creative and productive tool, provided society remains vigilant about oversight and integrity. The future, they argue, will be shaped by how Generation Z—and broader society—respond to these opportunities and threats.
