A growing divide in artificial intelligence education is emerging across America’s K-12 landscape, with students in affluent areas gaining more exposure and training than their peers in low-income and rural districts. Despite rapid adoption of AI tools, teacher training and student access remain uneven, perpetuating existing educational inequities. At the forefront of efforts to bridge this gap is AI4All, a free three-week summer camp at Princeton University that immerses underrepresented high school students in the foundational mathematics and applications of AI. Directed by Professor Olga Russakovsky, the nonprofit initiative aims to democratize and diversify the AI field, exposing participants to real-world projects alongside university faculty. Research indicates that without interventions like AI4All, the benefits and risks of AI could be distributed unevenly, raising stakes for policymakers and educators seeking to ensure equitable access to emerging technologies.
