Anguilla is parlaying its country code top-level domain, .ai, into a revenue windfall amid the artificial-intelligence boom. The British Overseas Territory earned EC$105.5 million ($39 million) from .ai registrations in 2024—about 23% of government revenues—riding a surge to more than 850,000 domains, with record sales such as you.ai for $700,000 and other six-figure auctions. To reduce operational risk from hurricanes, Anguilla inked a five-year revenue-sharing pact with U.S. registry operator Identity Digital, which migrated hosting to a global network. Officials project .ai revenues to climb to EC$132 million in 2025 and EC$138 million in 2026, helping diversify an economy still dominated by tourism. The strategy contrasts with Tuvalu’s earlier fixed-fee .tv deal and is intended to fund infrastructure, including a new airport and healthcare improvements, while the island navigates volatility in both weather and tech cycles.
