Chinese autonomous-vehicle operator Pony.ai will team up with Stellantis to test self-driving taxis in Europe, beginning in Luxembourg in the coming months and expanding to additional cities next year. Pony.ai will supply the autonomy software while Stellantis provides electric vehicles, initially the Peugeot e-Traveller, as the partners build a safety track record to secure regulatory approvals. The move comes as Alphabet’s Waymo readies robotaxi trials in London, underscoring intensifying competition to establish footholds in Europe. Pony.ai and rival WeRide, both U.S.-listed, also secured Chinese approval this week to pursue dual listings in Hong Kong, adding financial firepower to their expansion plans.
