Amazon unveiled “Amelia,” a prototype pair of AI-powered smart glasses built for delivery drivers, expanding the e-commerce giant’s push to automate the last mile. The glasses, now in tests with hundreds of drivers across multiple partners, feature a camera, heads-up display, and a safety mode that disables functions when a vehicle is in motion; Amazon says they can save up to 30 minutes per shift and include a hardware kill switch for sensors. The company also introduced a robotic arm for faster parcel sorting and an AI system to anticipate warehouse bottlenecks, aiming to boost productivity and reduce injuries. Unlike Meta’s consumer-focused smart glasses, Amazon’s device targets frontline operations first, with North America as the initial market and global deployment to follow.
