Meta is in discussions to spend billions on Google’s tensor processing units, a move that would bolster Alphabet’s challenge to Nvidia’s dominance in AI hardware, according to The Information. The talks, which could see Meta deploy TPUs in data centers by 2027 and rent capacity from Google Cloud as early as next year, follow Google’s agreement to supply up to 1 million chips to Anthropic. Alphabet’s market value is poised to top $4 trillion, while Nvidia shares slipped in premarket trading amid broader concerns about an AI bubble. Analysts called the prospective deal a strong validation of TPUs, and Bloomberg Intelligence estimates Meta could allocate $40–$50 billion to inferencing chips next year, potentially accelerating demand for Google Cloud. Google said demand is rising for both its TPUs and Nvidia GPUs; Meta declined to comment.
