Amazon CEO Andy Jassy is consolidating the company’s frontier AI, custom silicon, and quantum-computing initiatives under a new organization led by AWS veteran Peter DeSantis, who will report directly to Jassy. Pieter Abbeel, a prominent AI researcher and Covariant co-founder, will head Amazon’s frontier model research team, while longtime Alexa executive Rohit Prasad will depart at year-end. The shake-up aligns Amazon’s large-scale AI models with its in-house chips and cloud infrastructure following the recent launch of Nova 2 models and continued expansion of Graviton and Trainium. AWS’s existing utility computing leaders remain in place, with further structural details to come from AWS SVP Matt Garman.
