Meta inks nuclear power pacts to fuel its Prometheus AI supercluster

Meta struck agreements with Vistra, TerraPower and Oklo to supply nuclear power for its Prometheus AI supercomputing complex under construction in New Albany, Ohio, as Big Tech scours for reliable, low-carbon electricity to feed data-hungry AI systems. The company said the projects could add 6.6 gigawatts of capacity by 2035—more than New Hampshire’s total demand—and create thousands of construction and hundreds of operating jobs. Shares of Vistra and Oklo rose 10% and 8%, respectively, while Meta gained 1%. TerraPower’s projects could begin producing power as early as 2032; Oklo’s Ohio campus may come online by 2030. The move follows Meta’s 20-year deal with Constellation to buy nuclear power from an Illinois plant starting in 2027 and echoes pledges by Meta, Amazon and Google to triple global nuclear capacity by 2050. The push underscores Silicon Valley’s escalating race to lock in firm, carbon-free energy as companies pursue advanced AI and so-called superintelligence.
