Startup Trunk Tools, founded by Sarah Buchner, is leveraging generative AI to address longstanding inefficiencies within the construction sector, an industry notorious for its sluggish adoption of digital tools. With commercial construction losing up to $1 trillion in productivity annually due to outdated workflows and documentation errors, Trunk Tools automates critical tasks while clarifying complex project documentation. The platform, powered by AI and now backed by $70 million in funding, aims to reduce costly rework, administrative burdens, and environmental waste. Trunk Tools’ recent $40 million Series B round, led by Insight Partners and including investors such as Redpoint Ventures, underscores growing investor interest in construction technology. The company is also partnering with Microsoft to embed its tools directly into mainstream project management solutions, signaling a move toward modernizing one of the world’s largest—and least digitized—industries.
