Amazon CEO Andy Jassy announced that the company plans to reduce its workforce over the next few years as generative AI technologies are increasingly integrated into business operations. Jassy stated that AI’s efficiency gains will lessen the need for certain jobs, while creating demand for new roles. Microsoft is also expected to lay off thousands from its sales teams soon, reflecting a broader trend among major tech firms investing heavily in AI infrastructure. Amazon plans to spend $105 billion and Microsoft $80 billion in 2025, mainly for AI data centers and cloud services. Both companies have already implemented significant layoffs in recent years, and employee sentiment has soured amid ongoing job cuts and relocation mandates.
