Anthropic plans to spend $50 billion building U.S. AI infrastructure, beginning with custom data centers in Texas and New York developed with GPU cloud partner Fluidstack. The first sites are slated to go live in 2026 and are expected to create 800 permanent jobs and more than 2,000 construction roles. The initiative is aimed at supporting Anthropic’s enterprise growth and research agenda while countering OpenAI’s sweeping infrastructure push, which includes long-term commitments reportedly exceeding $1.4 trillion with major chip and cloud providers. Anthropic is also tapping Amazon’s dedicated Indiana campus and has expanded its compute deal with Google. The build-out underscores intensifying competition for domestic compute capacity and adds to policy debates over tax incentives and how to fund the sector’s power-hungry expansion.
