Two Chinese nationals were charged by the U.S. Department of Justice with orchestrating the unlawful export of Nvidia’s advanced AI chips, valued in the millions, from California to China through intermediary countries like Singapore and Malaysia, in defiance of increasingly stringent U.S. export controls. Operating under the company ALX Solutions, Chuan Geng and Shiwei Yang are alleged to have evaded licensing protocols, misrepresented shipment destinations, and concealed end users by routing payments through firms in Hong Kong and China. The case underscores Washington’s heightened scrutiny of technology flows to Beijing amid geopolitical tensions over artificial intelligence leadership. Both suspects face up to 20 years in prison if convicted.
