Over 400 prominent British artists, including Elton John, Dua Lipa, Ian McKellen, and Florence Welch, have signed a letter urging the UK prime minister to strengthen copyright protections against the development of artificial intelligence. They seek support for an amendment to the Data (Use and Access) Bill requiring transparency from AI developers in using copyrighted material to train AI models. The artists argue such measures are essential to preserve the UK’s creative sector, while some critics warn the proposals could stifle innovation. The government has opened consultations on the issue amid growing concerns from creators about how AI systems use their intellectual property.
