The FBI has issued a warning about a growing scam in which criminals use artificial intelligence to send fraudulent text messages and voicemails, pretending to be government officials in order to steal personal information. These scams, which have accelerated since April, involve AI-generated voices and messages that aim to scare recipients into responding and surrendering sensitive data. Security experts urge people not to respond to suspicious communications, to verify identities independently, and to be cautious with any requests for information. The FBI recommends examining contact details and looking for telltale signs of AI manipulation, such as odd voice glitches or visual distortions in attachments.
