Google is rolling out a suite of Gemini-powered developer tools for Google Maps, including a “builder agent” that can generate interactive map prototypes from text prompts and a styling agent for brand-specific visual themes. The company introduced Grounding Lite to let third-party AI models tap Maps data via the Model Context Protocol, a low-code Contextual View component for visual answers, and an MCP server that ties AI code assistants to Maps documentation. Developers can export and refine projects in Firebase Studio and use new Gemini CLI extensions to access Maps data. Google also pushed consumer updates, enabling hands-free Gemini for navigation and adding incident alerts and speed limits in parts of India. The moves deepen Google’s pitch to fold Maps into AI-driven developer workflows while defending share against rival location platforms.
