In a recent study, GPT-4.5 has become the first AI language model to pass the original three-party Turing test, convincing humans it was a person 73% of the time. Researchers found that giving the model a relatable persona made it more convincing than actual humans. This breakthrough demonstrates that AI can effectively imitate human-like communication, raising both opportunities for better AI conversations and concerns about future misuse via social engineering. However, passing this test does not prove AI has true intelligence; instead, it highlights the growing capability of AI systems to mimic human behavior convincingly enough to fool most people.
