The article features personal accounts from workers across Poland, Indonesia, the UK, and the US whose careers in creative industries – including journalism, illustration, copywriting, voice acting, and graphic design – have been negatively impacted by the rise of generative AI tools such as ChatGPT and Midjourney. Many lost their jobs as companies adopted AI to generate content, art, and even voices, often as a cost-saving measure. Interviewees discuss concerns over ethics, representation, copyright infringement, and the lack of regulations surrounding new technology. While some see limited productive uses for AI, all agree on the irreplaceable value of human creativity and expression and warn against allowing machines to supplant genuine work and cultural nuance.
