Meta Platforms Inc. CEO Mark Zuckerberg has unveiled plans for a large-scale artificial intelligence expansion, including the construction of several high-powered data centers across the United States. Following major investments and numerous AI-related executive hires, Meta intends to allocate hundreds of billions of dollars toward developing advanced AI infrastructure. The upcoming Prometheus supercluster will become operational in Ohio by 2026, while the Hyperion facility in Louisiana is set to reach up to 5 gigawatts. The company’s aggressive investment aims to outpace competitors such as Microsoft, Amazon, and Google, as it seeks independence from external technology partners and expands beyond its core social apps. Meta’s efforts also include augmented reality and AI superintelligence labs, though challenges remain in areas like the metaverse and device integration.
