Meta reportedly discussed a possible takeover of the AI startup Runway, known for its innovative AI video-generation tools and recently recognized on CNBC’s Disruptor 50 list. However, talks did not advance and eventually ended. The news comes as Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has been rapidly expanding the company’s footprint in AI, including a recent $14.3 billion investment in Scale AI and acquisition approaches to other startups such as Safe Superintelligence and Perplexity AI. While a full buyout of Runway did not occur, Meta’s large-scale efforts to ramp up its AI capabilities remain a focal strategy for the company’s future growth.
