Meta Platforms struck a deal to deploy tens of millions of Amazon’s AWS Graviton cores, expanding a long-running partnership as the social-media giant builds out “agentic” AI systems. The move highlights a shift in AI infrastructure: GPUs remain central for training, while purpose-built CPUs take on real-time reasoning, code generation and orchestration at scale. AWS’s new Graviton5 chips promise higher performance and energy efficiency, backed by Nitro-based security and high-speed networking, to help Meta handle billions of interactions while curbing costs and power use. The pact underscores AWS’s bet on custom silicon and could further entrench Arm-based processors in data centers as AI workloads diversify.
