Meta Platforms has launched a standalone artificial intelligence application built on its Llama AI model, directly challenging the likes of OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Google’s Gemini, Anthropic’s Claude, and xAI’s Grok. The new Meta AI app, revealed at Meta’s LlamaCon event, features a Discover feed for exploring user interactions. Meta previously integrated Meta AI into its main apps, but this marks the first time it is available as a separate product. With 700 million monthly users reported in January, Meta is investing heavily—up to $65 billion in 2025—in building out its AI infrastructure as competition in generative AI accelerates. Investors are closely watching for signs of immediate business impact from these efforts as Meta prepares to report quarterly earnings.
