Microsoft is set to announce thousands of job cuts, largely in sales and spanning multiple departments, as part of a broader restructuring driven by its surging investments in artificial intelligence and data infrastructure. The layoffs, expected to be revealed after Microsoft’s fiscal year ends, build on an earlier round that affected 6,000 employees. These actions reflect the company’s commitment of $80 billion toward AI and data center expansion this fiscal year. The move occurs against the backdrop of similar strategies by other tech firms, including Amazon, which is also embracing AI to automate and downsize corporate roles.
