A new NBC News survey finds 57% of registered voters believe the risks of artificial intelligence outweigh its benefits, compared with 34% who say the opposite. Only 26% view AI positively, and voters lack confidence in either party’s stewardship of the technology: 20% favor Republicans, 19% Democrats, while 33% choose neither. Skepticism is most pronounced among voters 18-34 (net -44) and women 18-49 (net -41); men over 50 and upper-income voters are slightly positive. The findings come amid concerns over job displacement tied to generative AI, rising power demands from data centers, and competing rhetoric from policymakers who tout innovation and national competitiveness, including President Donald Trump, who downplays job-loss fears. The poll of 1,000 registered voters, conducted Feb. 27–March 3, has a margin of error of ±3.1 points; 56% report using AI in the prior two months, led by professional managers and white-collar workers.
