Lawyers for MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell have admitted to mistakenly submitting a court document generated by artificial intelligence in his ongoing defamation case, prompting them to request a delay in the trial. The error led to a federal judge questioning their use of generative AI, and threatening possible disciplinary action due to numerous mistakes and nonexistent citations in the filing. The defamation suit, brought by former Dominion Voting Systems executive Eric Coomer, relates to Lindell’s claims concerning the 2020 presidential election. The defense attorneys cite reputational harm and distractions from trial preparation as reasons to postpone the trial, currently set for June 2, by 45 days.
