OpenAI introduced GPT-5.5, an incremental upgrade designed to better write code, operate software and handle research tasks, extending the company’s rapid release cadence. The model is rolling out to paid ChatGPT and Codex tiers, with API access to follow after additional safety checks. The move intensifies competition with Google and Anthropic, whose recent model preview drew attention for cybersecurity prowess. OpenAI said GPT-5.5 scored “High” but not “Critical” on its internal cyber-risk scale after third-party testing and red teaming, as the company courts more enterprise demand for automation with less user guidance.
