The University of Oxford will provide campus-wide access to OpenAI’s ChatGPT Edu after a yearlong pilot involving about 750 participants, becoming the first UK university to offer the education-focused tool to all students and staff. The rollout is part of a five-year partnership with OpenAI and is accompanied by training that emphasizes ethics, privacy, and responsible use. Oxford says the tool’s enhanced privacy and security features keep institutional data in-house, aligning with the university’s digital transformation agenda. OpenAI called the move a template for how generative AI can be embedded across higher education.
