Elon Musk’s xAI sued a South Carolina man in federal court in Texas, alleging he violated its terms by using Grok to generate sexualized deepfakes, including of minors, after attempting to circumvent built-in safeguards. The complaint seeks unspecified damages and a permanent ban, marking what xAI says is the first lawsuit by an AI company against one of its users. xAI said it suspended more than 52,000 accounts and filed over 73,000 reports to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children this year, resulting in nearly 250 arrests. The case arrives amid mounting scrutiny from U.S. and European officials and platform bans in Malaysia and Indonesia, even as Musk has denied awareness of Grok producing nude images of minors.
