Amazon said it will invest $5 billion in Anthropic, with as much as $20 billion more tied to milestones, as the AI startup committed over $100 billion in spending on AWS infrastructure during the next decade. Anthropic will secure up to 5 gigawatts of capacity across current and future Trainium chips and tens of millions of Graviton cores, with additional Trainium3 capacity slated for this year. The companies will also make Anthropic’s native Claude Platform accessible within AWS accounts and expand inference in Asia and Europe. The move underscores Amazon’s push to differentiate with custom AI silicon and massive compute clusters—such as Project Rainier, which uses nearly 500,000 Trainium2 chips—amid intensifying competition for AI workloads.
