London’s Metropolitan Police secured a 12-month extension to its pilot with U.S. data-analytics firm Palantir, weeks after Mayor Sadiq Khan blocked a proposed £50 million contract over procurement concerns. City officials said the Met must run a fresh, open tender to pick a long-term supplier, but allowed the force to keep its current capability during the process. The Palantir-backed system—used to aggregate internal data and flag potential misconduct—has compiled information on roughly 45,000 personnel, according to Commissioner Mark Rowley, who said it helps identify risks earlier and bolster professional standards. Palantir has threatened legal action over the mayor’s earlier decision. Met leaders said the technology could also streamline back-office tasks and help close budget gaps while the force pursues a compliant procurement.
