U.S. equities advanced as AI-linked names regained momentum even with oil hovering near recent highs. The S&P 500 rose 0.9% to 7,509.20, the Dow added 385.38 points to 52,224.64, and the Nasdaq climbed 1.3% to 25,837.21. Semiconductor and AI beneficiaries led, with Micron up 12.2% and Nvidia up 2%, recouping part of last week’s slide. Brent crude briefly approached $92 before settling at $91.01, stoking concern that renewed energy inflation could complicate the Federal Reserve’s policy path; the 10-year Treasury yield ticked up to 4.63%.
Earnings helped buoy sentiment. 3M gained 7.3% after beating estimates and lifting its 2026 profit outlook. Hasbro jumped 8.8% as Magic: The Gathering topped $500 million in quarterly revenue, while GM rose 4.9% on stronger-than-expected results and resilient North American demand. Offsetting gains, Danaher sank 11% on a softer revenue-growth outlook, and D.R. Horton eased 0.9% amid affordability pressures and higher mortgage rates. Overseas, Europe’s FTSE 100 added 0.6%, and Asia rallied with Korea’s Kospi up 3.6% and Japan’s Nikkei 225 up 3.3% as AI bellwethers Samsung and SK Hynix advanced.
