Secret filming with Meta’s AI smart glasses sparks outcry over privacy and consent

A video of a woman secretly recorded by a man wearing Meta’s AI-enabled Ray-Ban glasses went viral, intensifying scrutiny of wearable tech and consent. Instagram chief Adam Mosseri said the platform is removing content that harasses people or invades privacy, while Meta maintains its glasses include an LED indicator and software designed to prevent covert recording—safeguards a CBS test found could be sidestepped after recording begins. The episode comes as Texas’s attorney general probes the glasses over potential privacy violations and as one-party consent laws in many states complicate enforcement. Meta says it is improving tamper detection, underscoring the tension between emerging consumer AI devices and evolving standards for public recording and platform moderation.
