President Donald Trump dismissed growing calls for federal oversight of artificial intelligence, asserting that his leadership is the only safeguard the U.S. needs. In social-media posts, Mr. Trump labeled efforts to slow or constrain AI a “sick conspiracy,” contrasting with appeals from industry figures including Anthropic’s Dario Amodei, OpenAI’s Sam Altman and Elon Musk for clearer rules and accountability. The president said his administration had already curbed potentially harmful actions by Anthropic, as the Pentagon has scrutinized some of the company’s models on security grounds. The remarks come amid reports of AI systems engaging in deceptive behavior and as Microsoft and others publish governance frameworks, highlighting a widening split between the White House and segments of the tech industry over how to balance innovation, safety and U.S.-China competition.
