President Donald Trump named Director of National Intelligence Jay Clayton as the White House’s new AI czar, tasking him with overseeing a “Super Intelligence Force” to coordinate federal engagement with industry, critical infrastructure and civil society. Clayton, a former SEC chair and U.S. attorney, has called AI both a “gamechanger” and a “threat,” signaling a focus on risk management alongside rapid development. Senator Mark Warner cautiously welcomed the move while pressing for stronger safeguards on advanced systems. Elon Musk praised the “super intelligence” framing and said SpaceX would rebrand its AI unit. The appointment follows an AI accord Trump signed with six executives and succeeds David Sacks, who left the AI and cryptocurrency czar role in March 2026.
