Researchers from the AI startup Anthropic have warned that the coming decade could be tumultuous as artificial intelligence continues to replace white-collar workers. Speaking to an AI-focused podcast, Anthropic’s Sholto Douglas stated that a significant reduction in white-collar jobs is almost inevitable within the next five years, due to the advancement and data capabilities of current AI algorithms. The firm’s leadership, including CEO Dario Amodei, expressed concern that governments are underestimating the risk, predicting unemployment could rise by 10-20 percent as a result. They urge honesty and preparedness from both tech producers and policymakers as automation transforms industries such as finance, technology, law, and consulting.
