Meta will resume training its artificial intelligence models with public data from adult users in the European Union after receiving approval from European data regulators. The move comes after a year-long pause due to privacy concerns raised by Irish officials. Public posts, comments, and interactions (excluding private messages and data from minors) will be used to improve Meta’s AI models, with users notified and given an opt-out option. This action follows recent EDPB approval and aligns Meta’s practices with those of Google and OpenAI. The decision comes as Apple also highlights its privacy-minded AI development methods.
