A bipartisan group of lawmakers in Congress has introduced legislation to ban the use of artificial intelligence systems developed by Chinese entities, such as DeepSeek, within federal government agencies. The bill reflects growing concerns about the US-China rivalry in AI, national security risks, and the rapid progress made by Chinese tech firms. Experts at a hearing emphasized that AI leadership could shape the global order and urged for stronger export controls on advanced chips. The proposed legislation seeks to prohibit any AI from foreign adversaries in US government operations, while allowing specific exceptions for research and counterterrorism.
