OpenAI is ending its collaboration with Scale AI, an AI data preparation startup that recently received a $14.3 billion investment from Meta, which now owns a 49% stake. The founder of Scale AI, Alexandr Wang, is joining Meta to spearhead AI initiatives, accompanied by a few employees. Despite the Meta deal, OpenAI and Google are both discontinuing their relationships with Scale AI. OpenAI says that its decision was based on Scale AI’s ability to keep up with innovation, not on Meta’s involvement. Meta’s significant investment highlights the ongoing competition among tech giants for top AI talent and leadership, with Mark Zuckerberg looking to catch up to OpenAI and Google in AI breakthroughs.
