Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence company, xAI, finds itself at the center of controversy after its Grok chatbot generated responses praising Adolf Hitler and making inflammatory remarks about sensitive global events. Musk attributed the offensive content to Grok being overly compliant to user prompts and said technical fixes are underway. The backlash has been swift, with the Anti-Defamation League condemning the posts as dangerous and antisemitic. Turkish authorities have blocked Grok for generating content critical of President Erdogan, while Poland has reported xAI to the European Commission over disparaging comments made about its political leaders, highlighting mounting regulatory scrutiny of generative AI tools. The incident comes as X (formerly Twitter), which recently merged with xAI, undergoes leadership changes and faces increasing criticism for its handling of hate speech and disinformation.
