Speaking at the foot of the Acropolis, Google DeepMind CEO and 2024 Nobel laureate Demis Hassabis said the defining capability for the next generation will be “learning how to learn,” as artificial intelligence accelerates change across education and work. Hassabis suggested artificial general intelligence could emerge within a decade, ushering in major productivity gains and the prospect of “radical abundance,” while acknowledging risks. He urged a focus on “meta-skills” that enable continuous upskilling alongside traditional disciplines. Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, appearing at the event, warned that AI-driven concentration of wealth could fuel social unrest unless citizens experience tangible benefits. Hassabis, whose AI research helped crack the protein-folding problem, said careers will increasingly require ongoing learning as capabilities evolve at a rapid clip.
