Nvidia spent more than $900 million in cash and stock to hire Enfabrica CEO Rochan Sankar and other employees and to license the AI hardware startup’s technology, according to people familiar with the deal. The move, echoing acquihire-style transactions by Meta and Google, strengthens Nvidia’s position in networking technology that links vast GPU clusters—an increasingly critical layer as AI workloads scale. Nvidia previously invested in Enfabrica and has stepped up capital deployment across AI infrastructure, including a $5 billion stake in Intel and an investment in U.K. data-center operator Nscale. The company, which has historically done little M&A beyond its Mellanox buy, declined to comment; Enfabrica also did not comment.
