Amazon said it will eliminate 14,000 corporate jobs as it accelerates investment in artificial intelligence, part of a broader push to streamline operations and lower costs. CEO Andy Jassy has touted AI as a growth engine—particularly for Amazon Web Services—and a way to improve efficiency across products including Alexa and e-commerce tools. The company plans to invest $10 billion in an AI campus in North Carolina, underscoring its bet on generative AI. “This generation of AI is the most transformative technology we’ve seen since the Internet,” a senior executive told employees, framing the reductions as positioning Amazon to “operate like the world’s largest startup.” Analysts said the move marks a shift from human capital to tech infrastructure. Despite the cuts, Amazon aims to hire 250,000 seasonal workers for its warehouses and logistics during the holidays. Amazon remains the No. 2 U.S. private employer, with about 1.5 million workers worldwide.
